Do the winter blues have you down? Come out and support the National Honor Society’s annual Winter Carnival in the Bill Pensyl Gymnasium on Friday, March 2 from 6:30-9 p.m. for a pick-me-up. You will experience an overload of carnival games including Soccer shoot, Balloon Dart Toss, Wifflemania, ‘Pie in the Face’, and so many more.

During the Winter Carnival an array of high school clubs help entertain the community children and excite them for when they eventually join in high school.

“The main goal is to provide an inexpensive night of fun and games for families in the district to enjoy and chase away those winter blues (at least for one night),” National Honor Society Advisor Mr. Weaver said.

Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, PYLN (Pennsylvania Youth Leadership Network), SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Aevidum, Film Club/Yearbook, Ecology Club, Technology Student Association, and Class Cabinet, will come together in the gymnasium to hold their last important fund-raisers of the year.

“Our sub-goal is to provide a way for the clubs and organizations at the high school to fund-raise, as well as excite the elementary students about the opportunities for involvement when they eventually make it to the high school and promote the good that the clubs are doing for the community,” Mr. Weaver said.

The National Honor Society cannot put on this event without the help from the Spanish Honor Society and its efforts to organize the advertisements and announcements.

“Spanish Honor Society coordinates all of the Winter Carnival publicity including banners and flyers to each elementary school, school announcements for each building, and flyers in the community,” Spanish Honor Society Advisor Señora Menio said.

Along with handling the promotion of this community-involved event, Spanish Honor Society has created a new way to attract more excited elementary school students to attend.

“A year or so ago, we came up with the idea of adding coupons on the backs of our flyers as a way to motivate people to come. Last year, when we did it, it brought a whole bunch of people out, so we’re going to continue doing that for this year and years to come,” Spanish Honor Society President Sophia Rosseti said. “The coupons might say ‘one free game’ or ‘one free drink/snack’ and it’s a great way to get people to come out and support all of Bangor’s clubs!

Don’t miss out on this fun night of games with members from your community! Make a difference and help support the extracurricular activities offered at Bangor High School!
