With iPads officially in the hands of every student, a world of opportunity is at the student body’s fingertips… literally!

Despite some growing pains, the iPads are proving to be an indispensable tool for students and teachers alike. Throughout the building teachers are finding new ways to engage students by presenting material in hands on ways like never before. From notetaking to interactive in class games, polls, and other activities, the widespread consensus looks to be positive.

“I like taking notes on the iPad and having access to Schoology. Also, I like using the reminders to keep track of what I have to do after school and what homework I have,” junior Akash Sareen said.

Another great aspect of these new tools is that they provide opportunities to students who previously did not have access to technology at home. With this new device in hand, students can excel and perform with more ease of access than before.

It is important that students be exposed to technology as a tool rather than just entertainment. In a technology-fueled society, students need 21st century skills to be successful in any further education or the workforce. The iPads provide the opportunity to learn how tech is used responsibly and effectively.

As Bangor Area School District continues to grow and change as a tech savvy school, students must keep in mind the importance of using these new tools responsibly. If they want to continue having the opportunity to use tech in new, interesting ways, it is absolutely imperative that they keep in mind the rules of good internet citizenship and respect for others and their property.

Technology will change and there will continue to be challenges in this new, evolving environment, but technology is made through adaptation and innovation, so the school will have to adapt as well.
