BANGOR BOUTIQUE BENEFITS SLATERS

Located outside of the cafeteria, the Bangor Boutique is more than just a place to grab some clothing when you get dress coded. The boutique has helped a plethora of Bangor students with its generous donations and volunteers.

“The boutique helps students when they are in need of clothing, if students forget their gym clothes, or if a student is cited for dress code violations,” Mrs. Young said. “The boutique also helps students enrolled in Career Exploration practice job skills that would be needed if they worked in a department store.”

Originally created by Mrs. Serulneck, the boutique is now run by Mrs. Young, Mrs. Miller Mrs. Carbone, and their students.

“The boutique started out of a need that was recognized in the school community. Specifically, for students who did not have or forgot gym clothes,” Mrs. Young said. “The boutique started out as a small table in the corner of a classroom and as grown into an entire room of donations supported by the school community.”

Although the boutique’s main purpose is to benefit the students of the school who need more clothing, it also is a fun learning experience for those students who help run it.

“My favorite part of working at the boutique is getting to dress the mannequins because it’s so fun,” Leah Hoyte said.

Any student can help by placing their gently used clothing, shoes, or coats in one of the donation bins located around the school. The clothing must be washed and meet the school’s dress code.

“We accept donations of gently used clothing like, gym clothing, jeans, dress pants, dresses, prom dresses, t-shirts, dress shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, shoes, hats, mittens, and coats,” Mrs. Young said.
