Senior standout Bailey Andreeko can be found acing it on the tennis courts and in classes. Working hard through the summer and her entire high school career, Andreeko earned the well-deserved position as captain and 1st singles of the tennis team.

Andreeko found her love for tennis at the young age of 9 when her dad first started teaching her. It was his passion and he wanted to extend it into Andreeko’s lifestyle. Clearly, it worked.

“I used to go to the summer clinics at the school every year, and now I am running it, which I think is pretty cool,” Andreeko said.

The opportunity to run these summer clinics made Andreeko an obvious choice for the position of team captain.  As captain, Andreeko ensures there is a good environment and, most importantly, that everyone is always having fun.

“We had a great season because everyone is friends on the team and we all get along; our coaches always make sure that there is a fun environment,” Giovanna Murgia said.

With help from first singles Bailey Andreeko, the girls varsity tennis team had a regular season record of 9-9 with 5 of the wins being 5-0 shut outs against Wilson, Palisades, and Pen Argyl.

Andreeko’s favorite part of playing the sport is getting into long rallies with opponents. This is when two players continuously hit back and forth until someone scores a point. Andreeko’s favorite opponent is Jen Labar, a best friend on and off the court.

“Bailey and I have such a strong connection. When I get frustrated, Bailey knows exactly what to say and what to do to keep my head straight and to keep me calm,” Labar said.

Andreeko and Labar will take their friendship to the court together as they pair up to compete in double’s districts on October 16. Being best friends, the two should be an unstoppable pair in these upcoming matches.

Going in with an 8-10 regular season record, Andreeko participated in single’s districts Monday, October 2 where she finished 1-1. She also competed in the Colonial League tournament Thursday, September 28 where she was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the entire Colonial League.

“I’m pretty excited about the Sportsmanship Award because they only give it out to one player each year and I am the first person in Bangor tennis to get it, so that’s pretty awesome,” Andreeko said.

After an already successful regular season and the start of districts, Andreeko plans to extend her senior season as long as she possibly can. With tennis as her passion, she is considering to continue her career at the college level.

Andreeko’s promising future includes plans to attend either Clemson or Bloomsburg University where she will study nursing. If Bloomsburg happens to be the better fit, she will join the tennis team for her collegiate career and take her passion to the next level.

“I want to try to play tennis in college because I love the game and I really never want it to stop. I hope to play competitively for as long as I can,” Andreeko explained.

Andreeko will finish her senior season strong while being excited for what her promising future has in store.
