SENIORS PREPARE FOR BONFIRE

Allyson Heard, Editor

Every year, seniors are chosen to have the honor of preparing the annual Bangor vs. Pen Argyl bonfire and it’s not as easy as it seems.

Students who desire to take on this important task must first complete several requirements to be allowed to participate.

Each student must complete a one-page essay on what the Bangor-Pen Argyl rivalry means to them, have a parent or guardian fill out their permission slip, and hand these back to Mr. Holland.

Mr. Holland and Mr. Smith then must choose 30 students from those essays who have good academic and behavioral standings, are willing to put in the hard work to build the bonfire, and have approval from their fall sports coach.

The official bonfire list will be available to staff on Tuesday, October 23.

On Friday, October 27 the chosen seniors will have the responsibility of spending their day transporting, lifting, and decorating the wooden pallets to try and build the ultimate bonfire.

After hours of grueling and strategic work, their final creation will be lit following the Bangor-Pen Argyl pep rally that night to bring the Slater community together before their beloved rivalry game.
