Christmas is a time of giving. What better gift than one that comes from the heart… a homemade decoration. Put down the macaroni necklace and plug in your hot glue gun because you’re about to become a craft novice in no time with these simple DIY holiday decorations. Over the course of the next few weeks we at The Slater are going to keep you posted with fun holiday projects.

Tea Light Snowman
Easy and straightforward, this cute decoration is great if you’re on a budget. Most of these materials can be found lying around your house, but if not, they’re easy to find on Amazon or any local craft store at a cheap price. You can use these tea light snowmen as an ornament on your tree or as gift tags on presents. Either way, these adorable snowmen will surely be a crowd pleaser.

Materials:
-Battery operated tea lights
-Black Sharpie
-Red ribbon
-Red pipe cleaners
-Red pom poms
-Black felt
-Orange Sharpie
-Glue gun

Directions:
1. Use the black Sharpie to draw a face onto the tea light. Some people choose to use google eyes, but the black Sharpie creates a simpler look.

2. Cut a piece of red pipe cleaner to approximately 2.5” long.

3. Curve the pipe cleaner around the top of the tea light, (where the eyes are), and add a small line of hot glue on both ends to hold it in place. Make sure you don’t glue the entire piece because later on, you’ll need to slide the ribbon under the pipe cleaner.

4. After the pipe cleaner is put into place, add a dab of hot glue where the ears would be and attach the pom poms.

5. Next, cut a piece of red ribbon to approximately 4.5” long. Cross the ribbon over itself and add a drop of hot glue in the middle to hold it together. This way, the ribbon stays in place and looks like a scarf. Once that is dry, put a dab of glue onto the ribbon and stick it to the back of the tea light.

6. Now, cut a piece of thinner red ribbon to be approximately 11” long and slide it under the pipe cleaner. Tie a tiny knot in the ribbon to keep it together.

7. Finally, since the flame of the tea light is white, you’ll want to color it orange in order to make it look like a carrot. Any orange marker will do, but a Sharpie will be your best bet because it will stay on the longest.

Now your tea light snowman is complete!
