CHOIR TAKES ON NYC
December 8, 2017
The Slater choir explored New York City for a day of fun. During their trip, students walked Times Square and later kicked back and watched Kinky Boots at the Al Hirschfeld Theater on November 19.
Before watching the musical, students had free time to shop, sitesee, and eat.
“I really enjoyed hanging out with my besties and seeing the interesting people like The Naked Cowboy in NYC,” sophomore Brookel Sabella said.
After free time, students were more than ready to warm up as they watched Kinky Boots.
Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, who leaves his family’s shoe factory to live with his girlfriend in London. After the death of his father, Charlie must return to the factory and figure out a way to keep the business alive. Lola, a drag queen, gives Charlie the idea to create ladies shoes for men. The musical takes off from there as it teaches its audience lessons through songs and dances.
“By the end of the show the music and the glitter and the tears just flood the theatre and it shows that being you is the best thing you can be,” Graziano said. “This was important for many of us Bangor kids to hear, because so many of us struggle with accepting who we really are.”
