THE ULTIMATE GIFT GUIDE FOR YOUR BF/GF

Sara Phillips, Editor

Lights are twinkling, Christmas music is flooding your ears, and even the smell of those cookies is enough to make your mouth water. Ahhh…pure happiness.

But then it dawns on you…you don’t have a gift for your honey.

It is sometimes difficult to tell what the right present is in relation to how long you have been together, but we at The Slater have all the answers.

“Talking”

C’mon, let’s face it; all you and your almost love have going for you right now are around 32 texts and some awkward eye-contact in the halls, but the possibility of a relationship excites you.

So, you go to Target and buy one of those big fluffy teddy bears. Then, by the time Christmas comes around, your bae has moved on to the next and you are left with a souvenir of sadness.

Put that money towards yourself or, someone permanent in your life, such as a parent, instead. If you are not official, do not waste your money.

1-4 months

At this point, you are most likely still in the gross honeymoon phase of the relationship and you want to be with each other constantly. Though you may be tempted to completely spoil your sweetie, do not.

You already make people uncomfortable with your nonstop affection; okay, fine, but no one needs to see diamond earrings that your new boo got you on your Snapchat story.

Stay away from Pandora and keep it simple. A small, thoughtful gift such as a pair of fuzzy socks along with some of your better half’s favorite candy will do the trick.

5-9 months

Okay, okay…maybe things are getting a little serious, but do not get ahead of yourself. You’ve met the parents, gotten through the first few arguments, and are relatively comfortable around each other…don’t scare your dear one off now.

This time is tough because you do not want to do too much, but you also don’t want to do too little—still no ring, but a pack of gum will not work either.

Do something thoughtful such as a framed picture of you two with a shirt that you think they will like… but please avoid the throwback to 2008 and don’t get that cutie an Aeropostale graphic shirt. Those are not in anymore.

10-12 months

Wedding bells are ringing! Just kidding, but you have made it pretty far for a high school relationship and Christmas should be made a special time for you two lovebirds.

Usually at this point, gifts will be discussed and it won’t be awkward to ask what your number one would like. Don’t break the bank, but it is time to step it up here.

A pair of shoes that your special someone wants or tickets for something that you could do together, such as going to see a musical, would be reasonable.

Regardless of gifts, the holidays are about being thankful for what you have. No matter what you gift, your darlin’ will not have the heart to tell you it is atrocious and will wear that ugly sweater around like there is no tomorrow simply because it came from you.
