LADY SLATERS SOCCER RECAP

Under the direction of head coach Ken Wilson, the Lady Slaters soccer team battled all season and ended up 7-11. Captains Kylee Will (forward), Montana Cassaro (goalie), Alayna Menecola (midfielder), and Sophia Rossetti (defense) led the team through a season of ups and down.

Despite their rollercoaster of a season, the Slaters proved their grit against rival Pen Argyl, as Will scored the winning goal in double overtime, making it 1-0.

“I think the most impressive game of the season was against Pen Argyl, just because we won 1-0 in double overtime, which doesn’t happen too often,” Coach Wilson said.

In the tough victory, the Slaters came together with a strong defensive showing from sophomore Jordan Hendricks, who made Colonial League 2nd team due to her impeccable performance all season.

Will was also named Honorable Mention of the Colonial League 1st team, and the school record for “most goals scored by a single player” with 87.

Despite their vast efforts and individual successes, the Lady Slaters did not make it to the playoffs.

“Obviously it was disappointing since we didn’t make playoffs for the first time in a long time, but I think that overall we played the second half of the season better than the first,” Coach Wilson said. “I feel that some of the other teams were just better than us, so we definitely need to focus on areas that need improvement and get ready for next season.”

The girls are learning from this season, and ready to prepare and improve for their 2018 season.
