JURASSIC WORLD: FAILING KINGDOM
December 18, 2017
The new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer was released and it looks absurdly horrible.
The trailer begins with small talk between Owen Grady (Chis Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) as they discuss returning to Jurassic World to save the dinosaurs from an island that’s about to explode, and most importantly, Owen’s dinosaur, Blue.
Then there is a trial where they are discussing the rights of the dinosaurs and if they should go and rescue them. “These creatures were here before us, and if we’re not careful, they’re going to be here after,” warns Dr. Malcom (Jeff Goldblum).
A montage of special effects, running from dinosaurs, and explosions lead up to Owen running from a stampede to meet up with Claire who are then backed up against a gyrosphere by a dinosaur. The Tyrannosaurs rex kills the other, saving Owen and Claire. The gyropshpere then flies over the edge of a cliff with Claire inside, leaving Owen in the dust behind them – Uh. Did we just watch Owen die?
Planning of the park
The main plot of Fallen Kingdom is that Owen and Claire must go back to Isla Nublar to rescue the dinosaurs from another extinction. The worst part is that the island is literally exploding because it was built on top of an active volcano. Now what planner would ever build and multi-million (maybe billion, probably billion) dollar theme park on top of an active volcano?
In the beginning of the trailer there is a courtroom scene where they are debating on if they will grant the dinosaurs the same rights as other species and try to protect them, but in real life no one evacuates native animals when a volcano erupts.
What are they going to do with the dinosaurs?
If Owen and Claire actually end up saving these dinosaurs from the volcano, which is basically impossible, what are they going to do with them? Obviously, they didn’t learn from Jurassic Park I, II, III, or Jurassic World that they cannot control dinosaurs. Where could they put all of the dinosaurs? Is there another island? Are they going to make yet another theme park?
The least qualified people are going
Out of the whole entire world, why would authorities ever allow a trainer, the Jurassic World operations manager who oversaw the utter destruction of the park in Jurassic World – wait, why is she back again? –, and an elderly man to visit an exploding island to capture free-range dinosaurs.
Let’s do the math, Dr. Malcom is probably at least 60 years old. Do you really think a 60+ year old man is going to be chasing down dinosaurs? Most likely not.
Too lucky
How many times can they be saved by giant dinosaurs? At the end of Jurassic World, the team is saved from the Indominus rex by the Tyrannosaurus rex who gets into a battle with the Indominus. Overwhelmed, the Indominus is backed up to the lagoon, where the Mosasaurus leaps out and drags it underwater. During the trailer a dinosaur backs Claire up against the gyrosphere and is saved by – I bet you can’t guess — a giant T. rex. I mean how lucky is that?
There is also a scene in the trailer where Owen is running away from the stampede of dinosaurs and black cloud of debris from the explosion. There is no possible way that a man, whose top speed would be 27.8 mph if he was Usain Bolt – which Owen isn’t — could outrun both a dinosaur AND a volcanic explosion.
Although there is a chance that Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom could potentially be a good movie, the trailer portrayed it as being absolutely horrendous, we will find out on June 22, 2018.
