Winter break provides students hours and hours of freedom; it might be time to binge watch a new show.

Riverdale, a drama based off the Archie comic characters, is set in a small town that looks innocent to the outsider, however, upon closer study reveals deeply hidden secrets.

This teen soap opera can be found on Netflix; new episodes air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW channel. The show provides drama, mystery, and scandals that make it perfect to binge watch.

In the first season, we follow up to five storylines that all connect to a problem that happened during the summer in Riverdale.

The first episode called ‘Chapter One: The River’s Edge’, introduces the characters and intrigue. When the new school year at Riverdale High begins, small town is still in denial of the mysterious disappearance of “golden boy” Jason Blossom.

The day before school, Betty Cooper, known as the “the girl next door,” is anxious to see her best friend Archie Andrews because she has feelings for him but doesn’t want to tell him.

Archie has other goals in mind as he deals with wanting to pursue a career in music instead of construction like his father wants him too. He’s also been hiding a secret that no one can find out or his reputation could be on the line.

Adding to the drama, new girl Veronica Lodge comes from New York due to a personal family issue. She has undeniable chemistry with Archie, however, she doesn’t want to ruin her new friendship with Betty.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Blossom, also known as the queen of Riverdale High loves to spur drama in the friend group. She’s dealing with her brother’s disappearance in ways that are uncommon. She struggles keeping many secrets away from the public as well.

By the end of the episode, a plot twist changes the town and its “innocence.”
