ROCK BAND ROCKED THE HOUSE

Austin Medina, Reporter

On December 22, 2017, nine bands battled it out in a claim to fame in this year’s Rock Band competition.

Hosted by the always-entertaining Mr. Weaver, this annual contest proved a blast once again. These bands were well prepared, at least visually, for the challenge with elaborate costumes and wild performances.

Performers were critiqued by an “expert” panel of judges including Mrs. Tuerff, Mr. Oliver, Mrs. Harris, and Mr. Egner. Bands could win Best Outfits, Best Name, Best Crowd Response, and Overall Best Performance.

This year’s roster proceeded as follows:

The Gilmore Girls
The Redder The Better
Psychedelic Manhattan Project
Mr. President and His Cabinet
Lickety Splitz
The Fallen Four
We Love Our Mommies
Emily and The Cowgirls
Tom and The Night Terrors

The show sold nearly four hundred tickets and spanned just over an hour.

The crowd gave a candid response to each band and it was clear which bands did well and which ones just weren’t cutting it. When a band was really rocking, the audience went berserk singing along and cheering.

Bands like We Love Our Mommies, Tom and The Night Terrors, and Psychedelic Manhattan Project made a dramatic impression.

Each band played with a different style; some bands would be jumpy and wild, and others would stand still, too focused to move an inch.

But who took home the dub?

Well, the overall winners, Tom and The Night Terrors, performed “Fireflies” by Owl City. The four members jammed their way to the hearts of every audience member while channeling some sort of visceral AC/DC rock vibes.

This was a great start to the Winter Break.
