BOYS SPRINT TO VICTORY

As Slater sprinters prepare for a tough season, the boys plan to dash for the finish line this year.  Competition will be tough, so work is critical.

Coach Ulianna and Coach Hopstetter are making sure the boys stay on task and work hard to reach their goals, no matter the wintry start to the season.

“I always tell the boys the weather is an uncontrollable factor that we cannot control. It affects everyone. However, only you can control how you perform,” Hopstetter said.

The boys preseason training and tough grind to start has led to a record of 8-1 thus far.

This awesome record is thanks to offseason dedication by many athletes.

“In preseason, I train with wrestling, football, and running,” 100m, 200m and 4 by 1 junior sprinter Garrett DeBoer said. “During the season, I run everyday after school, eat healthy, and push myself every single practice.”

With this competitive attitude, prepared track and field sprinters are looking to set new records.

“I want to break the 200 record this year. I am .6 seconds away from it,” junior Tyrek Scipio said. “I just have to keep working my hardest.”

Managing time on their individual self and skills must be consistent to reach their goals.

“To make it far up in track, you must work hard and well with others, retaining a good attitude and confidence, while accepting the criticism others may throw at you,” DeBoer said.

110 and 300 meter hurdles and  4X1 relay sprinter junior Jevon Pennix is dedicated, keeping good work ethic and a positive mindset knowing the cutthroat competition this season.

“Southern Lehigh is one of the most difficult teams we face,” Pennix said. “They have standouts in every event with a big team filled with outstanding athletes.”

Be sure to come out and support the boys sprinters at their next track meet on Tuesday, May 1.
