MILLER KEYSONE BLOOD DRIVE WAS A SUCCESS

The Leo Club’s annual spring Miller Keystone blood drive this past Monday was a success as more than 50 people signed up to donate.

The blood drive was coordinated by Leo Club advisor Mrs. Menell and senior Sophia Rossetti, who is an avid member of the Leo Club and organized the event over the past few weeks.

Rossetti set up advertising for the blood drive as it is very crucial to get the word out to the student body. Posters, morning announcements, and lunch announcements were all made to urge people to donate.

The Miller Keystone Blood organization comes to the school with all the equipment, and students donate blood. It is required that beforehand participants fill out forms to ensure that they have no iron deficiencies or diseases.

The phlebotomists bring pint bags, tubes, and needles with them to the school and start the drive.

“We had 40 units of blood officially donated when the drive was over. It’s really important to donate blood because it is a way to connect the school and the community, it is a way of giving back to the community that supports the students,” Rossetti said.

The blood drive was open to all students 16 and older with parental consent. Just donating one unit of blood can save as many as three lives.

If students wish to donate in the future they can contact Miller Keystone Blood Center at 800-B-A-DONOR (223-6667) or go to https://www.giveapint.org/ to schedule an appointment.
