DOMENIC VICARIO: SLATER TO SPARTAN

With his easy going and warm-hearted personality, senior Domenic Vicario will continue to broaden his horizon as he furthers his education at York College of Pennsylvania next fall.

During his spare time, Vicario enjoys listening to music, working out, watching movies, and wrestling with some of his closest friends.

“I have always loved music. When I was little, I used to drum with my uncle on pots and pans,” Vicario said. “I started playing sports because of my dad. He would always tell me a bunch of stories about him and his wrestling days in high school and it made me want to join the wrestling team.”

Of the 10 years he has been wrestling, Vicario found that the unpredictable practices with coach Thompson stood out to him most.

“Working with coach Thompson was always an adventure,” Vicario said. “My most memorable moment was when he was frustrated with something, he showed someone else a difficult move on me.”

When Vicario isn’t on the mat, he spends time at the Career Institute of Technology (CIT) cooking up recipes in their culinary arts course.

“My mom works at a bakery and I have always been interested in cooking and baking,” Vicario said. “When I was a young kid, I would watch cooking shows. I used to watch Emeril a lot.”

Aside from athletics and cooking, Vicario also has a passion for history.

“Something that really made me take off with history was my sophomore American History class with Mr. Hawk. You can ask him about any event or topic and he would know the answer,” Vicario said.

In addition to all that he does, Vicario takes interest in criminal justice, as well.

“I love the strong character that’s needed within criminal justice and the fact that I’ll be able to outsmart criminals and give the family of victim’s justice,” Vicario said.

Eventually, Vicario aspires to become a police officer, detective, or history teacher.

“I love talking about current events and history. Ever since I started high school, my love for the subject grew,” Vicario said. “I feel like being a police officer is a rewarding job and I love the detective aspect of it. Ultimately, I just want to serve my country and help make it a better place.”

After high school, Vicario plans on going undeclared at York college of Pennsylvania next fall to help him determine which major he leans towards more.

“York College stood out to me because it is smaller in size, the professors seem to care more than a state school, it’s not too far away, but it’s not too close, and you can come in as undeclared for your major,” Vicario said. “They have excellent programs to help you find a good major based on your interests.”

Gearing up for his future, Vicario plans to focus more on his academics and his physical health.

“I was going to start working out again to make it easier for me to be in physical shape and have the wind to catch criminals, and if need be, fight them to detain them,” Vicario said. “I was also going to try and take a psychology course to be more familiar with the signs to tell if people are lying or not.”

To be successful in whichever field he chooses, Vicario discovered that its necessary to present quality leadership skills, composure, and the capability of interacting with others.

“I believe I have the potential of being a good leader. As of now, I am a group leader in my culinary arts class,” Vicario said. “I like to think I’m pretty composed because I can hold in my emotions moderately and I’m interactive because I love to talk to people about both history and current events.”

Overall, Vicario wouldn’t be where he is today without the support and encouragement from his parents.

“No matter what, they have always been there for me when I need them. Even if it was my fault, they would let me know what was wrong, and be there for me despite all that.” Vicario said. “I also look up to them because that’s where I got my hard work ethic. My parents work really hard to give me a good life and hard work has rubbed off on me.”

As Vicario continues to dedicate himself to his interests and studies, we can expect many great achievements from his future academic journey.
