SLATER SPOTLIGHT: ANGEL TORRES
May 18, 2021
How many years have you been a Bangor Slater?
All my life, so 12 years I think then. 13 If you include kindergarten!
Where do you plan to attend college and what will you be studying? What do you want to do as a future career?
I plan on attending college at City College of New York. I will be majoring in mathematics. My endgame is to become a professor and teach math.
List the sports, activities, clubs, etc. you did while you were at Bangor High School.
Tennis, marching band, Envirothon, Pit Orchestra, and Ecology Club.
What three positive words would your friends use to describe you?
Determined, zealous, and trustworthy.
Who will you remember most in Bangor and why?
The people who were in the drumline section throughout my high school career; they have been another family for me.
What is your best high school memory and why?
During my sophomore year, I received a 2-liter bottle of coke in my APUSH class on my birthday. I later shared that bottle at my lunch table with friends and we toasted using the small ketchup containers. It was the first time I had given a toast.
What is your worst high school memory and why?
Receiving the announcement that school would be closed last year because of the pandemic and everything was getting cancelled.
Which band could play the soundtrack to your high school career and why?
I would have Coldplay play Viva La Vida over and over again because it describes the highs and lows of high school.
If there were a movie or TV show made about your high school days, which actor would play your part and why?
I would want Keanu Reeves because come on, it’s Keanu Reeves. He’s a nice guy.
When you arrive at school in the morning, where is the first place you want to go and why?
I want to go to the band room because I have made so many memories there.
Who influenced you most during high school and why?
For in school, I would think Marino Bubba because he was able to juggle many activities and is a great role model.
Where do you predict you’ll end up ten years from now and why?
I would be working towards my doctorate because schooling will take a while.
Which event, events will you miss the most and why?
I miss recess because I had more breaks back then. I will miss marching band night football games and competitions. There was so much hype and strength around those events.
What is your favorite quote to live by and why?
Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (New King James Version) I like this verse because the walking explains that you will have challenges in life, but the Lord will be with me as I fight. Many times, I feel like I want to give up after many all-nighters and driving, but in the end, it will all be worth it. My faith comforts me.
