SLATER SPOTLIGHT: MADISON ZUKIE
May 18, 2021
How many years have you been a Bangor Slater?
I’ve been a Bangor Slater for 10 years.
Where do you plan to attend college and what will you be studying? What do you want to do as a future career?
I am attending Temple University and majoring in Journalism. For a career, I want to be a writer in the punk music scene.
List the sports, activities, clubs, etc. you did while you were at Bangor High School.
I am a member of Slater Chorale, Women’s Chorale, Concert/Symphonic Choir, Concert/Symphonic Band, BAHS Musicals, Varsity Cheerleading (two time captain), SGA, and GSA.
What three positive words would your friends use to describe you?
Creative, independent, and motivated.
Who will you remember most in Bangor and why?
Mr. Di Minico, I didn’t sing or play any instruments until my freshman year, I am SO glad I made the decision to. Mr. Di Minico has always been the most supportive teacher; I’m lucky to have had him.
What is your best high school memory and why?
The 100th game against Pen Argyl! Being a junior that year AND the captain of the Varsity Cheerleading team was the best experience I could have asked for. Nothing beats the energy and pride I felt that day.
What is your worst high school memory and why?
Honestly… my only bad memory is every math test that I have ever taken.
Which band could play the soundtrack to your high school career and why?
Definitely Blink-182 or Neck Deep. Their music is a good reflection on how I’ve spent my years so far, lots of fun and lots of punk shows.
If there were a movie or TV show made about your high school days, which actor would play your part and why.
Winona Ryder! Not only has she played my favorite characters in film, but I think she could reflect who I am in the perfect way.
When you arrive at school in the morning, where is the first place you want to go and why?
The choir room. Nothing feels better than being in that room and singing with such amazing vocalists.
Who influenced you most during high school and why?
It’s more of a “what” than a “who,” but music. Music has easily been the most influential part of my life. No matter how I’m feeling there’s always a song to relate to.
Where do you predict you’ll end up ten years from now and why?
10 years from now I would love nothing more than to be following my boyfriend’s band on tour while writing about the whole experience for a press or blog.
Which event, events will you miss the most and why?
Rock Band!! I loved that event more than the others. It was so fun to gather in the theater and watch everyone’s “band” play that game.
What is your favorite quote to live by and why?
“Life’s Not Out To Get You” – Neck Deep, not only is that the title of my favorite album, but it holds a lot of meaning to me. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is out to get you, but it isn’t and that’s so important to remind yourself.
