Hardworking and determined senior Mia Mariano plans to attend DeSales University in their 5-year PA accelerated program. She has been an outgoing student here at Bangor with participation in the Ecology Club, the Spanish Honor Society, the National Honor Society, the Color Guard, and as Stage Crew Manager in 2024.
What are your favorite classes? What was it about these classes that thrilled you?
My favorite class is biology because that’s what I want to do in the future, and it’s been the most interesting subject to me personally. I have had some amazing biology teachers throughout my time at Bangor Area High School and I have loved every second of their classes!
What are your plans after high school (college, military, career path, etc.)? What do you hope to study? What career(s) appeal to you? Why?
I am entering the 5-year accelerated PA program at DeSales University and becoming a Physician’s assistant in the future. This career appeals to me because it is one in which I will be able to work directly with patients to aid in their care alongside a doctor. Being as the program I am enrolled in is an accellerated program, I will be able to graduate as a PA in 5 years instead of the usual 6.
Describe, in detail, your ideal life 10 years from now.
I will have graduated from the PA program and will be working as a Physician’s assistant. I am looking to potentially work under a doctor who works in either neurology or pediatrics. In addition to my career aspirations, I am hoping to be able to own my own house, be married with a kid or two, and just simply be happy.
What is your best high school memory and why?
I love all the memories I’ve made from all the activities I do. Some of my best high school memories include going on the annual bike and boat trip with the Ecology club, performing at all the football games with the Marching Band and Stage Managing the musicals. All these activities bring only fun memories with people I enjoy being around!
Which event/events will you miss the most and why?
Although I am far from an athletic person, the event I will miss most is the football games. The school I’m going to doesn’t even have a football team, so I will miss being able to attend the games, cheer on my school and perform with the Marching Band.
Who will you remember most in Bangor and why?
My closest friends, Oliver, Lockeston, Gia, and Gavin of course. They are a part of most of my high school memories. We have been friends for years and have done everything together, so it’ll be weird going to school without them. In addition to them I will be missing some of my Ecology club friends like Priya and Kayla Gambale.
Who is your biggest mentor (shoutout to a teacher/coach)? Why?
My biggest mentor is Mr. Hachtman because he has given me a lot of opportunities and I have been able to accomplish great things through his guidance. I was able to conduct some personal research my junior year, and that whole experience was overseen by Mr. Hachtman.
What activities (sports, clubs, jobs) have you done throughout your high school career?
The Ecology Club, the Spanish Honor Society, the National Honor Society, Envirothon, Aevidum, the Color Guard, and the Stage Crew Manager.
Which of these activities is your favorite and why? What was/is your position in the activity? Why did this activity matter to you so much? List any accomplishments. (Feel free to answer with more than one activity; please specify)
My favorite of these activities is being a part of the stage crew because it’s become a huge part of my high school experience, and I feel like we do an incredible job! I feel even more accomplished now that I’m stage crew manager, this year for Mean Girls. Being able to say that I’ve truly been at rehearsals since day one and helped to build this show from the ground up has been a huge and rewarding accomplishment for me! In addition to being stage crew manager, I also love being a part of the Ecology club. This club has been nothing but fun times spent with people who share the same passion for environmental science that I do!
