Laura Buzzard, a musically inclined Bangor High School student who is involved in choir, symphonic band, jazz band, the school musical, and French Honor Society, will be attending UArts in the fall, where she will major in dance.

What major are you planning to study? Why?

I’m majoring in dance. I have never really been able to picture myself having a career without dancing since it has been such a huge part of my life. There are so many career options involved with dancing in some way so I felt majoring in dance was pretty obvious.

Where are you going to college? Why did you to go there?

I’m going to be attending University of the Arts. I chose UArts because I wanted to be in a city (gotta love Bangor but small towns don’t work for dance), and I also wanted to be surrounded by people interested in the arts.

If your senior-self could give your freshman-self advice, what would you say?

Please stop wearing your hair in a fishtail braid every single day.

What is your go to dance move?

For as well as I can dance up on a stage, I’m actually terrible at dancing like a normal human being so I just kind of flail my arms around.

What is your favorite type of dance?

To watch: Hip hop. But let’s be honest I can’t do that, so modern probably would be my favorite.

What celebrity would you want to be partners with? Why?

Definitely Blake Lively 100%. Can she dance? I have about zero clue but it’s Blake Lively so who cares.

If you could only teach one person to dance in your life forever who would it be? Why?

Probably Ryan Reynolds because his wife is already manning the front desk of my dance studio, so why not?

What song would most represent your high school years?

Either “Dancing Queen” by ABBA or” I Wanna Go Home” by Sandy Cheeks.

What song is always stuck in your head?

“Never Gonna Give You Up” – Rick Astley.

Would you want a reality show about your dance studio?

Nope. I’m not trying to be the next Abbey Lee Miller.

What would your studio look like?

Probably just simple, nothing too crazy.

Where would you want your dance studio to be?

Preferably by the beach.

Why did you get into dance?

I wanted to wear the snazzy outfits and my friends were doing it.

If you had to only take one class your entire 4 years what would it be?

Intro to Psych with Professor Richmond.

What was the most embarrassing thing that happened the past 4 years?

Probably when I was sitting in the cafeteria sophomore year and my nose started gushing blood everywhere. I thought I just had a runny nose; I thought wrong. It would’ve been fine until my friends started sprinting across the cafeteria to get me paper towels. That kinda made a scene.
