Determined, persistent, strong-minded senior Josh Wilkins will attend Northampton Community College and East Stroudsburg University to pursue his career in psychology. He has been an outgoing student here at Bangor with participation in choir, basketball, all while maintaining jobs.
What are your favorite classes? What was it about these classes that thrilled you?
Psychology is a cool subject because it helps us understand how our minds work and why we behave the way we do. We learn about things like how we think, feel, and interact with others. It’s like a puzzle where we try to figure out what makes people tick.
What are some positive adjectives that your friends would use to describe you?
Being determined and persistent is a great quality to have. It shows that you’re willing to work hard and stay focused on your goals, whether it’s acing a test, pursuing a passion, or overcoming a challenge. I get told by others that I have a strong mindset which helps me push through obstacles. It’s important to stay resilient and keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.
What are your plans after high school (college, military, career path, etc.)? What do you hope to study? What career(s) appeal to you? Why?
Planning out your college journey is a smart move because now I have a clear path of what I want to do. The plan is to start at Northampton for the first two years and then transfer to East Stroudsburg University. Wanting to become a psychologist is a great goal of mine currently, since I’m drawn to the subject and find it intriguing.
Describe, in detail, your ideal life 10 years from now.
I envision myself building a steady career in psychology. As I progress in my career, I want to have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the field and positively impact the lives of others. And when the time is right, starting a family can bring a whole new level of excitement to my life. I will keep working towards my goals and aspirations because that’s who I am.
What is your best high school memory and why?
Sophomore year holds some of my best memories. Having all my friends with me during lunch made it extra special. It was such a chill and easygoing time. In fact, I’d say it was the easiest year of high school for me. Those moments of laughter with my friends are the ones I’ll always treasure. Looking back on those times reminds me of the importance of friendship and enjoying how simple my life was.
If there were a movie made about your high school days, what would be the title and which actor would play your part? Why?
Choosing “A Day in the Life” as the title for a movie about my high school days feels fitting because it would be about the everyday moments and experiences that made me. While I’d love to play myself, if I had to pick an actor it would be Kevin Hart. I think he would bring an entertaining energy to the role. His humor and just his personality could add a fun twist to the story, making it engaging for others.
Which event/events will you miss the most and why?
I think I’ll miss the pep rally the most. It’s not just because we get out of class for a bit, which is awesome. It’s also because of the excitement that the games bring. Everyone in school comes together to cheer on our teams and show our school spirit. We get to see our classmates and teachers having fun and supporting each other. It’s like a big party where we all feel proud to be part of the school.
Which artist could play the soundtrack to your high school career and why?
I would think Kendrick Lamar. He is relatable with any emotion. Lamar is a human with emotions, and he shows that through music for others to relate to. This type of attitude he has with his music makes me and maybe even other fans look up to him.
What is your favorite quote to live by and why?
My favorite quote to live by is ‘By any means necessary.’ It means that when life gets tough, I’m ready to do whatever it takes to succeed. For example, in my career, I’ll do whatever it takes to reach my goals. Whether it’s working extra hard, trying new things, or overcoming obstacles, I’m determined to make my dreams come true. ‘By any means necessary’ reminds me to stay strong and keep pushing forward, no matter what.
Who will you remember most in Bangor and why?
A friend I would shout out is Steven Salazar. We have been friends since my sophomore year. Ever since then, we have been hanging out. We’ve created lots of memories throughout the last two years of our high school career. I never doubted him as a friend, and always trusted him with any personal things or problems.
Who is your biggest mentor (shoutout a teacher/coach)? Why?
My biggest mentor is Mr. D, and I want to give him a shoutout. He’s always been there for me, supporting me in everything I do. Whatever the matter was he always helped. He’s helped me improve more than anyone else. Mr. D doesn’t just teach, he genuinely cares about my success and happiness. Because of him, I’ve grown a lot and become better in many ways.
What activities (sports, clubs, jobs) have you done throughout your high school career?
During high school, I’ve been involved in a few things that kept me busy and helped me grow. I played basketball, which taught me about teamwork and hard work. I also sang in the choir just for fun about every year. Besides school stuff, I had three different jobs over the years. These jobs taught me about responsibility and how to manage my time better.
Which of these activities is your favorite and why? What was/is your position in the activity? Why did this activity matter to you so much? List any accomplishments.
During high school, my favorite thing was working. I liked feeling independent and responsible. I worked at two McDonald’s and then at Weis. At McDonald’s, I did a bit of everything like taking orders and making sure customers were happy. At Weis, I worked in the produce section and as a cashier. Working was important to me because it taught me real-life skills like managing time and helping customers.
