After a busy start to the season the Slater Cross Country team is already making waves in the Colonial League. Sitting with a 7-2 record after the first two dual meets, the boys are setting themselves up for unrivaled success this season. 

At the annual season opener, The Lion Invitational, the boys made a statement with some standout individual performances and great finishes overall as a team. Junior Morgan O’Brien took home a sixth-place medal in the varsity race and freshman Gabriel Lawler and junior Dan Ferguson took fourth and seventh in the junior varsity race; their stellar individual performances helping carry the team to an overall successful meet. 

Only days following the Lion Invitational, the Slaters shocked fans once again with another standout meet. With O’Brien and sophomore Marino Bubba placing first and second respectively, followed closely by senior Hunter Kish in eighth, the Slaters were able to come out of the gates with an impressive 5-0 record.  

Only three days later the boys once again proved themselves at the DeSales Invitational. One of the biggest high school level meets of the year, it features stiff competition and somewhat reflective of what the team can expect at leagues and districts. Especially notable was freshman Gabe Lawler’s performance, as he was the overall winner of the freshman race. 

Finally capping off the flurry of meets that made up the first two weeks of the season was the team’s singular home meet. Preceded by senior night, the team took to the course and fought with pride against all four teams they were scoring against. The Slaters lost to Notre Dame and Saucon Valley but are looking for retribution as they prepare to face them again in three weeks. 

Heading into the rest of the season the team is ready to make big things happen on and off the course.
