The scholastic scrimmage team, run by Miss Derry, will compete against Dieruff on October 18 as a taping for PBS.

Scholastic scrimmage is a competitive question and answer team. The team answers basic questions from all subjects including history, science, math, arts, music, and sometimes even contemporary issues.

The members of the club include, Kyle Mabus, Allison Reduzi, Sophia Genteel, DJ Burham, Brooke Baker, Josh Pittenger, and Gulner Abci.

During practices, the goal in competition season is to be quick with the buzzer and to get questions answered correctly. Miss Derry helps with the memorization of answers to prepare the team for an event.

“I really enjoy being a part of scholastic scrimmage because it gives me an opportunity to learn new things and meet new people while having fun,” Scholastic scrimmage member Allison Reduzzi said.

A few years ago the team did extremely well. Placing 16th out of 50 teams in a competition in Philipsburg, out of the whole tristate area, which includes New Jersey and New York.

This year, Mabus, Burham, Abci, and Pittenger will represent the Slaters for the first competition of the season.

“I have high hopes and good expectations for this up coming season. It’s a fresh start with a young, new group,” Miss Derry said.
