Senior Andre Baadsvik has plans to take his intelligence and athleticism to the University of Vermont to study engineering.

Soccer has been a passion for Baadsvik since third grade.

“I was inspired to play soccer because I wanted to play another sport besides baseball, but basketball and football didn’t interest me; I tried soccer for a year and I loved it,” Baadsvik said.

As a varsity center-back, Baadsvik prevents goals from being scored and commands the back four as well.  Not only does it help him pihysically stay in shape, but also helps him mentally.

“I love soccer because it takes my mind away from stress and I can just focus on having fun with my teammates,” Baadsvik said.

Baadsvik is team captain and is greatly valued by his fellow teammates.

“Andre is a very good captain. He’s really good at keeping the team on track and focused. He’s a great leader and excellent player,” teammate Cory Pierson said. “Andre’s also good at keeping our heads up when we make mistakes. All and all I think he was the best captain this year out of the four we’ve had.

This leadership shows in Baadsvik’s work ethic for which he credits his father.

“My overall inspiration in soccer has been my father. He has a love for the sport that he passed down to me and has always pushed me to work hard to succeed. He loves the sport so much that he still plays in a rec league to this day,” Baadsvik said.

Baadsvik hopes soccer will remain prominent in his life too.

“In college, I plan on playing intramural soccer so I can stay fit and meet new people, as well as enjoy the sport like I do now,” said Baadsvik.

Though soccer is important, Baadsvik is extremely gifted in academics and that is where his priorities lie.

“My strongest subjects are math and science. They are also the ones I prefer, mainly because I excel at them. I also like them because all the problems have one answer. I don’t have to ‘infer what the author means by this quote’. I only have to do the math and it’s done,” Baadsvik said.

With math and science being his top subjects, Baadsvik will pursue a combination of these along with as he furthers his education.

“At the moment my future plans are to attend the University of Vermont to study some form of engineering, along with a minor in Spanish,” Baadsvik said. “I’m considering Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. I also chose Spanish as my minor because I generally enjoy foreign language and I believe it’s a useful language to know especially in the United States,”

With his many talents on and off the field, Andre Baadsvik has a very bright future awaiting.
