At Bangor Park on Friday, October 13, senior football captain Haakon Mathewson and senior cheering captain Martina Sell received awards after the football team played Palisades.

Mathewson was granted the David Hopstetter 110% Award. This award is given to a senior athlete that has played for Bangor Slater Youth Football and has proven to give 110% of themselves to their team throughout the entire season.

“When I was younger, I never would have imagined myself receiving this award but it did not matter because I was not working towards that,” Mathewson said. “The drive to win is what motivated me all these years, but it does feel great to be recognized.”

Sell was also recognized that night for her work in cheering. The Spirit Award is the equivalent of the 110% Award, but for an individual that has cheered from their youth into high school.

“Personally, it reminds me of how long I have been involved in the sport, and it makes me proud of how far I have come,” Sell said. “I think it is great that there are awards to recognize our life long dedication.”

Mathewson and Sell will continue to positively impact their teams as they finish their senior year.
