Whether it’s achieving success in track and cross country, wiping out his competition at swim meets, or excelling in advanced courses, senior Alex Schwartz never fails to impress Bangor.

Schwartz has been a talented cross country and track athlete for five years, four of which he spent on the high school varsity team.

“My biggest goal in eighth grade was to make it on varsity all four years of high school,” Schwartz said. “The effort I put in definitely paid off as I accomplished this goal.”

Schwartz’s drive for success is evident as he was injured for most of his senior cross-country season, but did not let it stop him from bettering himself.

“Spraining my ankle did not stop me from running. This past season was tough with an injury but I kept going,” Schwartz said.

In addition to being a determined and dedicated runner, Schwartz carries those qualities with him to the pool when he swims. Seven years ago, Schwartz joined a summer swim team in Belvidere, New Jersey and discovered his passion

“Practicing almost every day, I have put in an extreme amount of work, which leads me to be very determined to achieve my goals for the rest of the season,” Schwartz said.

Making the top eight in districts his junior year, Schwartz ‘s dedication paid off.

Setting high expectations for himself, he plans to make districts again.

“For my last season of swimming in Bangor, I really want to place in the top three in districts,” Schwartz said.

Schwartz’s accomplishments in swimming have helped shaped him into the incredible athlete he is, and he will take these lessons with him to college.

“I definitely plan to further my career in swimming in the future because I have a strong passion for the sport,” Schwartz said.

After graduation, Schwartz plans to attend Bloomsburg University where he will study pre-med. He hopes to one day become an ENT (ears, nose, and throat doctor).

“I am looking forward to pursuing this career choice,” Schwartz said. “Studying pre-med and becoming an ear, nose, and throat doctor is something I find very interesting and I’m exciting to go further into it.”

Taking advanced courses such as honors chemistry at BHS has influenced this career choice as well.

“My chemistry teacher Mrs. Price, algebra teacher, as well as my coach, Mr. Vidumsky, are the people that really pushed me to be the best student I could be,” Schwartz said.

As Schwartz finishes high school, he will continue to achieve his goals and impress his peers and spectators with his talents.
