BOYS TENNIS LOOKS FOR COLONIAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Allyson Heard, Editor in Chief

After months of preparation at Northwood, lift sessions with Coordinated Health, and lots of shoveling and squeegeeing their courts, the boys tennis team is ready to begin their season.

Led by team captain Ian Absalom and seniors Dan Rubel, Andre Baadsvik, Sean Scholes, Kyle Mabus, and Brayden Beltrano the team is full of strong key players who can help the team achieve their dream of Colonial League gold.

The starting lineup consists of 5 returning varsity players, this plethora of experience sets the Slaters up for a strong season as they look to improve from their 9-7 season last year.

Singles:

  1. Ian Absalom (sr., captain)
  2. Brayden Beltrano (sr.)
  3. Kyle Mabus (sr.)

Doubles:

  1. Andre Baadsvik (sr.) and Sean Scholes (sr.)
  2. Dan Rubel (sr.) and Grant Kaye (jr.)

“I think our greatest strength is that most of the starting varsity spots are filled with seniors which means our team has a lot of experience,” senior Andre Baadsvik said. “I think everyone in a starting spot is a key player because in order to win the match as a team, the majority of us has to win their personal match.

After every player made it to districts last year, the team is looking to improve their rankings and make it to the second round of District XI playoffs in this upcoming season.
