The glitter of costumes, sounds of tapping feet, and impressive vocals filled the auditorium as Bangor’s musical theatre department performed yet another magnificent show.

This year, talented Slaters performed 42nd Street on April 13, 14, and 15 in the Craig Payne Theater. The cast, crew, and pit put together an outstanding musical that left the audience in awe yet again as they were able to portray their love for Broadway in the upbeat production.

42nd Street is a classic jukebox musical that takes place in New York City after the times of the Great Depression. Well-known director Julian Marsh (Marino Bubba) tries to put on a brand-new show but lead Dorothy Brock (Brookel Sabella) is past her prime and cannot dance. In comes young and talented performer Peggy Sawyer (Gianna Graziano) who wants nothing more than to sing and dance on Broadway. Due to an accident with Brock that leaves her unable to perform, Sawyer steps in and steals the show, providing steady jobs for everyone in the cast for the next two years, defying the Great Depression.

Organized with a classic plot – girl-comes-to-the-big-city – and entertaining choreography, this year’s musical, without a doubt, thrilled audiences. The tap dancing numbers made this musical especially unforgettable.

In addition to the intriguing tap dancing, 42nd Street provided the audience with a meaningful message to live by.

“The show taught its audience that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, and if you do good, good will come back to you,” Graziano said. “Any little girl or little boy that may have watched the show will learn that no matter where you come from, you can end up in the greatest city in the world pursuing your dreams.”

With their phenomenal acting and exceptional singing, the cast and crew of 42nd Street had an amazing time creating and sharing many memories of their own.
