Senior athlete Saber Singleton played a prominent role in the Slater family through his involvement in cross country, track, and basketball.

“Playing school sports was painful, but worth it in the end. Sports have always been a hobby of mine and I am proud of the distance I have covered,” Singleton said.

Singleton’s motivation is driven from his competitiveness between his friends and rivals but ultimately he credited his main inspirations to his parents and his coaches.

“My coaches and parents are very good role models and are always there to help me, either in school or in sports,” Singleton said.

This year, Singleton’s dedication to the basketball team finally paid off as he secured a starting position on the team as point guard and performed very well during the course of the season.

“This was my first real year of varsity basketball. I earned a starting position and I did better than my own expectations,” Singleton said.

Though he enjoyed basketball, Singleton’s heart has always favored running. Presenting his leadership as captain, he is a strong member of cross country team with a PR of 17:30. He has been participating in cross country for his whole high school career and was a valuable addition to the team.

“Senior year for cross country was one of my favorite seasons. We had fun during the season and did very well. It was my last chance to run with my team but we made it count,” Singleton said.

Not only is he a devoted member of the cross country team, Singleton is also a participant in track. He runs the 4X800m with his teammates. They competed in this event at leagues and ran a 8:35, which was one of their best times.

Now that high school is coming to a close, Singleton plans to study forensic chemistry for the next four at York College of Pennsylvania so he can become a crime scene investigator.

“I think CSI work is interesting. I have always been intrigued by solving cases and helping innocent people, Singleton said.

Of all his options, York College of Pennsylvania was the best option for Singleton’s future.

“I have heard from people that went to/are going to York that it is a great college and they all love it. When I visited I liked the campus and the professors seemed really nice, presenting a good atmosphere there. It is also really close and has an amazing community of people,” Singleton said.

As his senior year comes to an end, Singleton cherishes the memories he has made over his high school years.

“I think the thing I will miss the most is probably practicing with my teammates and getting ready for a meet,” Singleton said.
