SLATER SPOTLIGHT: DILLON JAMES

Dillon James has been building toward his hopeful career as either a video game designer, video game programmer, or a 3D graphics artist for game projects. He has done this by attending the Career Institute of Technology for Computer System Networking for the last four years and he plans to go into the work force before gaining more education by attending Northampton Community College.

What are 3 positive adjectives your friends would use to describe you?

Positive, inspiring, and motivated.

What sports, clubs, activities did you do while in high school?

During high school I did take a bowling class that was available.

What were your standout classes?

I believe I stood out in biology and world cultures, as those are the classes that I felt I put the most effort into.

Are you heading to college after high school? If yes, what are you studying and where? If no, what are your career plans?

I plan on going into the work force for a little to save his money. Yes, I want to wait a little bit before going to college just until I know I can afford it, but I plan to go to Northampton Community College. In the meantime, I plan to get a job at Weis or in the technician field until I can make enough money for college.

Who will you remember most in Bangor and why?

I will remember all my friends and teachers. My friends helped me grow and develop as a person, and my teachers took the time to teach me all the knowledge that I know now.

What is your best high school memory and why?

My best high school memory was reuniting with all my friends that I didn’t get a lot of time to hang out with in middle school.

Which band could play the soundtrack to your high school career and why?

The best band to play the soundtrack of my career would be Queen, because I felt like a champion through my high school experiences.

If there were a movie made about your high school days, which actor would play your part and why?

I don’t know too many actors, but I’d say any actor who can relate to my experiences should play me, so they can get an emotional connection too.

Who influenced you most during high school and why?

My CIT teacher Mr. Chiappa influenced me the most. He never gave up trying to help me focus on my career and teach me what I wanted to know. Even if it didn’t even have to do with the class, I was in.

Describe what you hope your life will be like in ten years.

I hope within the next 10 years, I can see myself doing my dream career in creating video games.

Which event, events will you miss the most at Bangor and why?

I’m honestly going to miss everything about it. Sure, it’s not perfect, but Bangor Area School District just feels like home to me at this point.

What is your favorite quote to live by and why?

“Failure is the first step to success.” A friend at school tells me this quote every day, and it has always helped me improve my skills.

What is your favorite video game and why?

My favorite video game is either PAC-MAN or Bubble Bobble. I’ve always been a fan of simpler retro video games, and both games inspired me to create my own games.

Would you ever consider making your own video game, if so what would be in that game?

I have made my own games before. Most of the games that I make are my own versions of other titles that I have played. I made my own version of the horror game Five Nights at Freddy’s titled Yap and Yell, which is heavily inspired by the concept of the game, but with my own characters and gameplay mechanics. I have also been working on an original 3D platforming game for about 3 years now, and I really hope that this original game I’ve been working on can take me somewhere in the future.

What program are you in at CIT and why did you choose that program?

I am in the computer systems networking class. I’ve always been a fan of computers, and always thought it would be amazing to learn how to fix and build computers. Now that I have been in CIT for 4 years now, I have successfully gotten work experience, and mytechnician certification under TestOut PCPro.
