SLATER SPOTLIGHT: FREDDY BACON

Jack Wilson, Reporter

During his time at BHS, senior Freddy Bacon was part of the baseball and golf teams (captain, 2021, 2022 school years). He was also a leader of the Quarry Crew during his senior year. Now with his high school career coming to a close, Bacon plans to first attend NCC and then transfer to the University of Kentucky for a degree in business administration.

Who will you remember most in Bangor and why?

I’ll definitely remember all my teammates and coaches from baseball the most—mainly because of how much fun we’ve had in the locker room, on the field, and the bus rides to and from games.

What is your best high school memory and why?

My best memory was when we walked-off against Notre Dame last season because there’s nothing better than beating them.

What is your worst high school memory and why?

My worst memory would be choking in districts for golf 3 years in a row. I’ve worked so hard to be one of the better golfers in the area and sometimes you just mess up and wish you could do it all over again.

Who influenced you most during high school and why?

The person who influenced me most throughout high school would be my older brother’s best friend, and one of my closest friends, Sal Schippers because he always showed me that you have to enjoy life.

Describe what you hope your life will be like in ten years.

I hope in ten years I will see myself graduated with a degree in business administration and to be employed somewhere that I can be putting that degree to good use.

Which event/events will you miss the most at Bangor and why?

The easy answer is that I’ll miss the football games. They are so much fun to be a part of and being a leader of the Quarry Crew was a bunch of fun.

What is your favorite quote to live by and why?

My favorite quote to live by has to be what my dad came up with as his senior quote, “I dunno, whatever happens, happens I guess.” I love this because sometimes I’m a little lost and just roll with the punches.

What was your most memorable game in your high school sports career? What made this the most memorable?

This year at districts for golf was a lot of fun, and I played really well until the very end. It was my most memorable because I played with 2 guys that kept things light and we all had a good time even though we didn’t finish the way we would’ve liked.

What advice would you give underclassmen and new students aspiring to play sports? (Can be sports in general or a specific sport you played)

Take a chance at a sport you’ve never tried; you might end up falling in love with it.

If there was one thing you could go back and do differently, what would it be and why?

If I could do this all over again, I would’ve put more effort into school. During and after covid, I kind of lost hope in my grades and let myself slip deeper into a hole and had to work harder just to pass by in some classes with lower grades then I should have.
