Eric Bellis has excelled in the classroom all four years at Bangor Area High School. He will be attending Penn State University next year and he will be pre-med.

What is your best high school memory at Bangor?

This year’s prom was pretty lit. I haven’t gone in the past so I wasn’t sure what to expect, and while it got off to a slow start, it was a great night.

Who will you remember the most?

Mrs. Brown’s because her classes were great and she’s a good teacher. Mr. Hobbs and Hachtman were both interesting biology teachers and made me enjoy biology. Student wise, both Gembarskis were a hilarious sight to see in my classes because they’re both smart but are so different from each other. In a weird way, hearing Conor Platia curse me out will something to miss. Jacob Smith is kind of quiet but I’ll probably remember him. I’ll remember Rachel Bealer and Amalia Abrahamsen due to all the SGA stuff they’ve had me do.

Which events will you miss the most and why?

Prom, homecoming, volleyball, and decorating the halls with Christmas lights. I’m going miss the first three because it’s just a time where a large number of the student body are in one place enjoying themselves. The Christmas lights are tedious and fun to put up but how they look when finished just livens up the festivity in the school.

What is your best high school memory and why?

Being voted most sassy because I didn’t think enough people knew my name for me to even win a category.

Do you like to argue with people?

Depends on who I’m arguing with. If it’s a friend or teacher, it can be interesting to really debate and argue something out. If it’s just arguing for the sake of arguing, it is often futile.

What would make you get into an argument with a professor?

Hypocrisy, double standards, not receiving an A, or just a clearly uneducated statement.

What would you get into the argument about?

That’s sort of a big hypothetical, but I can imagine some professor in my college career going off about their political opinions or deducting points without any basis or accompanying facts, and if they’re wrong or I just disagree, I’m not going to sit there and stay quiet. It just depends on what the topic is if it will turn into an “argument.”

What is your favorite quote to live by?

“The closer you look, the less you see.” It just means not to get caught up in the details and forget the big picture of whatever you’re dealing with.

Where do you see yourself in 10-15 years?

Hopefully as an anesthesiologist in a hospital.

What will you miss the most about high school?

Nothing

What is your worst high school memory and why?

Arguing with Moran about the meaning of the word gentry. Feel free to look it up, he said it meant along the lines of the working-middle class while I said it meant upper-class. And my entire AP Euro class got unnecessarily tense for 15-20 minutes. And he still wouldn’t admit that he was wrong.

Who influenced you the most throughout your high school career and why?

I’m not going say any one person has influenced me the most, I try to be like the many people I respect while still maintaining my personality.

When you arrive in the morning at school, where is the first place you want to go and why?

Home because it’s not school and my bed is there.

Where do you predict you’ll end up in ten years and why?

I’ll preferably be mid-way through an anesthesiology residency.

What college are you going too?

Penn State

What are you going to major in?

Pre-med

Why do you argue with people?

I don’t enjoy someone saying something as fact when it’s just opinion because it just breeding ignorance, and if I disagree with them, I’m gonna say something.

Do you believe you’re always right?

Definitely not.

Do you remember any arguments in your past that you won? Be specific.

Not really, a lot of stuff I argue with people about is ideology based or something you’re not gonna get someone to change their opinion on. I don’t really keep a good memory of arguments because they happen in the moment and they’re not something I reminisce about. I’ve argued with Palmer Raisner a few times about some important topics: gun rights, immigration, and just politics in general. It’s educational  and enjoying to get an honest opinion from someone who’s passionate about their beliefs but disagrees with your perspectives, but at the same keeping it respectful.
