After watching ten Hallmark Christmas movies full of the same plot and cliché endings, I created my own. It’s called, “Christmas at McClingy’s”.

Act I:

Holly, a spontaneous, spunky, workaholic moves from Podunk Coldgrove to New York City to work at the famous “McClingy’s” department store. Here, she is challenged with creating the store’s annual Christmas display by her boss, Ann Gel, who touches the hearts of everyone she meets. The only problem is Holly does not enjoy Christmas or its festivities. Holly’s boyfriend, Scott Scrooge, is constantly too busy on his phone for his job in sales for a multi-national Christmas outfitter to listen to her woes, but he calls her “Sweetie” lot; their communication is problematic at best. She still feels lucky. Holly confides in her best friend, Cindy Mae Who, for all of her work stress and relationship problems.

Act II:

On Holly’s first day of work, Ann Gel explains to Holly how she will be in charge of designing the store’s annual Christmas window display. Luckily for Holly, Scott said he can help her find the perfect supplies needed for her display. Meanwhile, Holly meets a caring, determined, Christmas-spirited artist named Chris while shopping. Chris instantly becomes attracted to Holly and asks her out, but Holly says no because she is still with Scott. This causes tensions between the two, putting a damper on their new friendship. When Holly tells Cindy about her situation, Cindy tells her to go for it. The next day, Ann tells Holly that she is bringing in a trained professional artist to compete against Holly’s Christmas display, creating more stress in Holly’s life.

Act III:

The trained artist turns out to be none other than Chris, adding extra tensions between the two in the competition. Chris tries to reach out to help Holly with her display, only to make Holly even more angry with him. As Ann sees how the two have turned against each other, she warns them that they must find a way to come together. Ann notices how far behind Holly is on her display and begins to question her work ethic but praises Chris for his marvelous display so far.

Act IV:

Holly asks Scott where her supplies are and he has no idea what she is talking about, making Holly extremely angry. Because Scott is so self absorbed, he failed to follow through with his promise to Holly. Holly tells Cindy how Scott let her down and Cindy tells Holly that she should break up with Scott. After sleeping on it, Holly breaks up with Scott. Holly panics and goes sobbing to Chris for help to find substitutes for the supplies she was promised by Scott. As the deadline approaches, Holly and Chris spend more and more time together making Holly realize how much she enjoys being around Chris and how enjoyable he makes Christmas for her. Holly begins to dread finishing the display because she knows she and Chris won’t see each other anymore, and she begins to question if Chris has any feelings for her.

Act V:

Ann notices how well Chris and Holly worked together on their display and approaches the two. She tells them they are officially in charge for decorating the displays for every holiday. Holly confesses her love for Chris in a heartfelt speech during the first snow of the season. Chris admits to also falling in love with her after knowing each other for a mere couple of days. They both continue their lives together and live happily ever after. The end.
