Bangor seniors created the ultimate bonfire in preparation for the Bangor vs. Pen Argyl football game on Friday, October 27.

The 50 selected seniors spent all day driving around Bangor to pick up pallets, starting at Kiefer Pallet Co. and Miller’s Egg Ranch, to load their trucks, trailers, and tractors.

“It was a very memorable time for me. It was really cool to see everyone working together,” senior Bryce Kiefer said.

Once the pallets were brought to the school, the students had to strategically place the surprisingly heavy pallets to create the biggest bonfire.

“We tried to get as many pallets as possible in the short amount of time that we had and stack them as high as we could, all while making it stable enough to stand on,” senior Olivia Groller said.

Although it is an exciting day, building the bonfire was not all fun and games for the seniors.

“It was hard to stack the pallets because people would constantly be in the way when we’d be carrying the pallets over,” senior Hunter Kish said. “I had a lot of fun, though.”

After the pep rally, the seniors watched in satisfaction as all of their hard work went up in flames, literally.

“It made me realize that it’s our last bonfire and senior year is going a lot faster than I expected,” senior Andrew Polowy said.

The seniors impressed the community as their monstrosity of a bonfire warmed all of the spectators and even caught the hill on fire.

“It kind of hurt me inside because everyone worked so hard all day to make it look so nice,” senior Alyson Kiss said.

The school spirit carried over into the following morning for the 98th Bangor vs. Pen Argyl football game resulting in a 27-21 Slater victory.
