Funny, kind, and musical, Bangor Area High School senior Fiona Flatt has made her mark through theater, music, writing, and leadership. From performing on stage to leading the newspaper and yearbook staff, Flatt has spent her high school years embracing creativity and sharing her talents with others.
What activities (sports, clubs, jobs) have you been involved in during high school?
Varsity tennis, Newspaper/Yearbook (Editor-in-Chief), musical (Anastasia ensemble, Sophie K/French Teacher in Mean Girls, Madame in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Carlotta Giudicelli in The Phantom of the Opera), PMEA District and Region Choir, and Slater Chorale (secretary).
What are your plans after high school (college, career, military, etc.)?
Pursue a degree in writing from the University of Pittsburgh.
What activity has meant the most to you and why?
My participation in the musical has been one of the most valuable experiences of my life. Not only did I develop my most important friendships there, but it is the field in which I have demonstrated the most growth. I am able to say I am proud of how much I have improved.
Describe a specific moment or memory from that activity.
My favorite memory of the musical is when all the girls in the senior dressing room had a ding-dong-ditch war with the boys in the boys’ dressing room.
What is one challenge you faced and how did you handle it?
I’ve had to work to develop my singing voice for four years. It has taken hours of work every day.
What is your best high school memory and why?
Probably the karaoke parties I had with my choir friends.
If a movie were made about your life, what would it be called and who would play you? Why?
Redhead Poet Society — the story of a girl who writes a lot of stories. Think Big Fish but about a high school girl. I would be played by Amybeth McNulty.
Who is someone who had a big impact on you and why?
My parents have been my biggest inspirations. All the hard work they do, and they still are there to drive me to rehearsal and treat me like an individual.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully writing a book somewhere and sharing my stories with the world.
