Sweet, funny, and caring, Bangor Area High School senior Kaela Shade has spent her high school years immersed in the arts, leadership, and service. From leading the Literary Magazine to performing on stage, Shade has used every opportunity to grow creatively while preparing for a future in film and media.
What activities (sports, clubs, jobs) have you been involved in during high school?
I have been the Editor-in-Chief of the Lit Mag and a member of SGA, TSA, NHS, Slater Chorale, and the annual musical. I also have a part-time job at the State Theatre as a Front of House Tech.
What are your plans after high school (college, career, military, etc.)?
I will be attending Emerson College for my BFA in Film, Television, and Media Arts.
What activity has meant the most to you and why?
Being part of the musical has meant the most to me since it has allowed me to grow as a person, learn how to be motivated by rejection, and work extremely hard to reach my goals.
Describe a specific moment or memory from that activity.
I remember during my sophomore year I was sitting in the theater watching rehearsal, and that moment was when I realized I didn’t want to do anything else in my life but be in the visual arts.
What is one challenge you faced and how did you handle it?
Through this activity, I had my first experience of rejection, which over time I learned how to grow from by using it as motivation rather than giving up.
What is your best high school memory and why?
My best high school memory was being in Slater Chorale and connecting with the choir by learning the meanings of various songs. When this happened, it felt as if we were all a family and connected by music!
If a movie were made about your life, what would it be called and who would play you? Why?
My movie would probably be titled And so, it continues, which is inspired by my college essay. Amanda Seyfried could probably play me just because she does well creating a complex character who also has humor.
Who is someone who had a big impact on you and why?
My mom had a huge impact on me because she believed in me even when I thought the world was against me.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself directing movies and/or stage productions. Either way, I will be happy doing what I love!
