Senior basketball star Meghan Barone plans to take her skills with her as she continues her education at Centenary University next fall.

After playing basketball for several years, Barone’s technique and passion for the sport have grown with her.

“I started playing basketball in 6th grade and it just took off from there. I realized that I was rather good at shooting so I stuck with it,” Barone said.

With 58 points so far this season, Barone is a starting point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Slaters with a 9-5 overall record

“I take care of the ball by bringing it up the court and setting up an offense. As a shooting guard I just shoot as much as I can whether I’m open or not,” Barone joked.

The distinguished shooter thoroughly enjoys the sport, as well as the rush of adrenaline she gets from scoring and helping her team succeed.

“My favorite thing about playing is seeing my teammates reactions when I score,” Barone said. “They always do something funny on the bench when a 3-pointer is scored.”

Entering her senior season, Barone has focused more on the fundamentals of being a point guard.

“Last year to this year I have just been focusing on my ball handling skills. Coach told me that if I wanted play this year, I had to improve them,” Barone said.

Barone also has a very optimistic mindset for this season when it comes to her shooting skills.

“Coming off of last season, I had this idea in my head that I was going to be the best shooter in the Lehigh Valley,” Barone said.

Barone plans to carry this positive mentality and skills with her as she continues her career in Division III basketball.

“I plan on playing college basketball at Centenary University in Hackettstown, New Jersey,” Barone said. “I want to take my skills to the next level and continue the sport that I not only love, but that I am good at.”

Outside of basketball, Barone also participates in cross country and tries to ski as much as possible.

“Cross country has helped me tremendously by not only helping me physically get in shape but has also helped me mentally endure situations where I did not have enough strength to get through a race or a drill,” Barone said.

Along with playing basketball at Centenary University, Barone will major in sports management and social media marketing.

“With my major in sports management and social media marketing, I would hope to work for a professional sports team by either doing the simplest tasks or taking over their social media department,” Barone said.

Whether it’s through athletics or academics, Barone will make a great impact at Centenary University through her dedication and positive mindset.
