Bangor Area High School performing arts will present 42nd Street (from April 13-15). 42nd Street, directed by Mr. Diminco, features the talents of Marino Bubba (Julian Marsh), Gianna Graziano (Peggy Sawyer), and Brookel Sabella (Dorothy Brock).

The show portrays the efforts of young director Julian Marsh (Marino Bubba) as he stages his own production of the musical extravaganza Pretty Lady during the Great Depression. 42nd Street follows the journey of a talented young performer named Peggy Sawyer that’s finally getting her big break on Broadway after the lead of Pretty Lady, Dorothy Brock, is injured.

The members of the cast are pleased with this year’s musical choice, as they get to portray their love for Broadway in the upbeat production.

“For me personally, my biggest dream is to be on Broadway. By playing Peggy Sawyer I get to dip my toes into what that might actually feel like,” Gianna Graziano said. “All of the students in the show are working really hard and practicing and doing research just as if it was a real Broadway production, overall it makes the musical very exciting to be a part of.”

The commitment of the cast is proving necessary as 42nd Street is a challenging production.

“This musical is much more technical than shows we’ve done before. It has the most complex dancing, the music is much harder to play, requiring multiple days a week of practice, and the vocals are much more involved,” pit band musician Aryana Smith said.

The cast is already hard at work five days a week, having rehearsals from 2-5 p.m, while set design has been in progress since January.

Box office hours are after school (see below for days and times) and all tickets will cost $12.

The combination of breath taking music, costumes, and scenery will come together and bring something spectacular that all people that see it will enjoy.
