The 2017 Lady Slaters softball team ended the 2017 season with a record of 23-1. This year, with the help of coaches Rich and Chris Kessler the softball team, especially seniors Olivia Groller (Third Base), Jackie Hess (Short Stop), Kaitlyn Karasek (First Base), Julie Rocco (Second Base) and Serena DeAngelis (Pitcher and Leftfielder) have high hopes on achieving a great season

“Our last softball season was extremely exciting, everyone worked so well together and we had a super tight connection which helped us play very well together,” Hess said.

As captains, the senior girls make sure the team is on task and united as one.

“Our team likes to focus on the little things and working together. If one girl makes a mistake we all help to correct it,” DeAngelis said. “We all have a positive attitude which is so important when talking about our teams’ dynamic and working together.”

Since most of the girls on the team play other sports, offseason is normally hectic.

“Offseason is hard because most of us are in other sports and activities, but we normally all start off by hitting the gym and fielding the best we can no matter what,” Groller said.

With high hopes of making it to the Colonial League championships, the Lady Slaters have an exciting season ahead of them. “It’s really exciting to play with the girls, especially since this is my last season. We had the rivalry Bangor versus Pen Argyl game and won so it’s looking like an awesome season ahead,” Rocco said.

The constant rain delays and never ending snow has pushed off many softball games, but it has just made the girls more excited to get on the field.

“I’m so prepared for all of the upcoming games. We have had so many postponed games, so we are all just ready to start playing nonstop,” Hess said.

As the seniors prepare to leave, upcoming athletes have started to make major improvements.

“I’d say Haylee Klingle improved the most because she put in a lot more time in becoming better at dropping and blocking while catching. Plus, her throw to second base has improved a lot as well,” Hess said.

As the season progresses, the girls have their eyes set on their game against Northwestern.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the Northwestern game. Since we beat them last year during leagues, they want to beat us. This will be a great game to be a part of this season,” DeAngelis said.

All in all, the Lady Slaters are united as one and have their eyes set on victory.
