Girls cross country hits ground running

Amelia O'Brien, Editor

Over Labor Day weekend, Lady Slaters Cross Country competed in their first official meet, The Lion Invitational, where senior Martina Sell brought home some hardware with a fifth-place medal in the girls’ varsity race.

With one meet down, the girls took on the Wilson course on September 6 in the pouring rain. Despite the less than desirable conditions, the girls came to perform and Sell came out on top with an individual first place.

Mere days later the girls raced the DeSales Invitational, where Sell once again collected some hardware with a third place. Despite being considered one of the toughest courses in the area, the girls competed fiercely after an already packed week.

Finishing off the first frantic weeks of the season, the team ran their singular home race following senior night on September 12. With spirits high, they ran a great race and showed their Slater pride on the course.

Sitting with a 5-4 record Lady Slaters cross country will be a team to watch this season as they continue to train and prepare for success.
