A few weeks ago on February 15, students participated in SGA’s rendition of Minute to Win it to earn Clash of the Classes points. Each grade battled it out in the Craig Paine Theater to see who would become the Slater Showdown Champ.

The event consisted of several games that tested students’ ability to complete a task in under a minute. In order to receive a point for their class, students needed to win the game and answer a trivia question. It resulted in a fun-filled afternoon with thrown marshmallows, empty tissue boxes, and wrong answers.

SGA did a fantastic job portraying the popular game show. Hosts Marino Bubba, Nick Mazzella, and Akash Sareen kept the audience intrigued and made for an upbeat, lively afternoon.

Throughout the event, the classes were neck and neck. Each grade dominated whatever game was thrown their way. Eating an entire Fruit Roll Up without using hands? No problem. Unraveling two rolls of streamers in less than a minute? Easy.

“It was so much fun participating in the Slater Showdown competition,” sophomore Brookel Sabella said. “My favorite part was definitely knowing how many legs a butterfly had and then winning a point for my class.”

Even though most games were not a challenge for the fierce competitors, some students were stumped by the difficult trivia questions.

“It felt really good to win the game I participated in,” junior Kevin Manz said. “However, it felt horrible to get the trivia question wrong because I was so close to earning a point for the juniors.”

Even after a few trivia question stumbles, the juniors were victorious; demolishing their competition with each passing minute.

“We have a very competitive class of students,” junior participant Hailey Sortore said. “The junior class always performs well in the SGA competitions, so it was very exciting to finally win one and beat the seniors.”

After Slater Showdown, the seniors lead with 15 points, the juniors are in a close second with 13, and the sophomores and freshmen are tied with 10 points.

The next Clash of the Classes competition will be held on Wednesday, March 28. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to cheer on your class as they participate in fun gym games in hopes of winning some Clash of the Classes points.
