The small but mighty Bangor swimming team finished its stellar season by sending all four members to the District XI championships and three to states.

“This has definitely been an impressive season for Slater swimming,” senior Amelia O’Brien said. “At districts we brought home three individual district titles on top of three other medals. We definitely made a name for ourselves.”

The Slaters have the generous Nazareth Blue Eagle’s to thank. For the past several years, they adopted the Slaters into their pool, helping them practice and prepare for meets.

“If it wasn’t for Nazareth allowing us to swim with them we wouldn’t have been at districts or states,” sophomore Brenek Strawn said.

On top of all the team victories the Slaters had this season, senior Amelia O’Brien also became the first female Slater swimmer to be a District champion.

“I’ve enjoyed swimming for these past four years because it gave me opportunities to meet new people and do the sport I love,” O’Brien said. “It was an incredible feeling to be the first female to win district gold in swimming for Bangor. I was relieved and happy that all my hard work paid off and excited to compete again at states.”

With the determination and outstanding work ethic these swimmers possess, it is not a surprise that they finished on top.
