Prom queen and artistically inclined senior Jaiden Capozzolo has been a driving force in The Slater‘s staff since arriving on the scene sophomore year.

Now Editor-in-Chief for both the fall and spring semesters, Capozzolo’s early start will help her through her next phases of life

“Journalism taught me how to communicate better and it opened my eyes to a new style of writing that I discovered is something I am actually interested in pursuing,” Capozzolo said. “I don’t know for sure what I want to do in the future but communications and journalism are definite possibilities.”

Still undecided as to what career path she actually wants to follow, Capozzolo does know one thing: she wants to create.

Capozzolo pursues her creativity beyond the confines of language though, as she has an interest in drawing, painting, and ceramics as well.

“The only art classes I took with the high school were ceramics. On my own, I like to watercolor paint and sketch. Even though I never took a class for them, I kind of pretty much taught myself everything I know and they are things I enjoy doing,” Capozzolo said.

With an undeniable skill and passion in all her work, Capozzolo is an evidently gifted artist with words and materials alike.

“Art is self-expression. No matter how you are feeling or what you are thinking, art is a good way to turn all your emotions into something positive,” Capozzolo said.

As an influencing part of the art program here at Bangor, Capozzolo also served as the Vice President of the National Art Honor Society this past year where she helped organize and run a multitude of events to help others.

“National art honor society is a great part of our school community. We raise a lot of money for important causes through great fundraisers like the cupcake sale and the bowls for hunger event,” Capozzolo said. “My favorite activity we do is when we ‘adopt’ a kid through the Slater Family Network. We choose an elementary school student whose family cannot afford a lot of gifts for Christmas and we buy their presents for them. It just feels good to spread the holiday cheer and make someone else’s Christmas great!”

Capozzolo’s unique and creative outlook was a positive influence on many students throughout Bangor Area High school and will be dearly missed.
