Fun, funny, and driven, Bangor High School senior Jason Marcantonis has made his mark through athletics, hard work, and a personality that keeps people laughing. Whether on the basketball court, soccer field, or lifeguarding at work, Marcantonis has built lasting friendships and memorable experiences throughout high school.
What activities (sports, clubs, jobs) have you been involved in during high school?
I played basketball and soccer in high school, starting varsity for three years in both sports. I worked at Trolley Shop Restaurants for about a year, which was my first job, starting when I was a sophomore. After that, junior summer I was a lifeguard at Locust Lake Village. Then this whole senior year, I have lifeguarded at the YMCA in Slate Belt.
What are your plans after high school (college, career, military, etc.)?
I plan to attend West Chester University and study psychology. Later, I plan to get my PhD and become a psychologist, as well as one day hoping to own a business after all of this.
What activity has meant the most to you and why?
For me, basketball has meant the most to me. I have met all of my closest friends and made a new family through basketball, working the hardest I ever have for anything within the sport. Through basketball, I have connected with friends, family, and even strangers. I feel through basketball it has shaped the person I am and the mindset I have, giving me a chance to leave a mark, and I greatly appreciate that.
Describe a specific moment or memory from that activity.
Scoring on the wrong basket my sophomore year was definitely one of my most vivid memories. It was a very embarrassing moment and something that still gets brought up. However, now it is something we laugh about in memory.
What is one challenge you faced and how did you handle it?
I was not always good at basketball. I didn’t make the team my seventh-grade year. In eighth grade, I was on B team. Freshman year, I was on the freshman team, and as I said before, the year after that, although a varsity starter, I scored on my own basket. I was not always the best at what I did. However, through hard work for hours a day and years of my life, I eventually was able to become that. Junior year, being a part of a state run team, and senior year making first team all-league and many other honors and notices. Through that hardship and basically just sucking, I was able to motivate myself to become the best I could in just a few years.
If a movie were made about your life, what would it be called and who would play you? Why?
If a movie was made about my life, it would be called Knicks Fan and Jalen Brunson would play me because he is me in another life.
Who is someone who had a big impact on you and why?
My sisters, because I would do anything for them. Whatever they feel, I feel, and I always want to keep them safe.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Finally getting my PhD, then building an empire and getting rich.
Is there anything else you’d like people to know about you?
Blaine Anthony Waiters.
